Die and Punch Clearance for Deep Drawing Process

06/09/2010 7:45 AM

Thanks for your responses for the past question related to deep drawing process!

I've gone through google and found some calculation formula for finding out the clearance between the Die and Punch clearance for the deep drawing process.

Here given one of them,

C= T+ k ( √ 10 T)

Where,

C = Clearance
T = Material Thickness
k = Coefficient ( for Steel sheet =0.07)

As per the formulae, in our case, ( sheet thickness = 0.64mm)

C = 0.64 + [ 0.07x √ (10x0.64)]

Clearance = 0.82 mm

As per your knowledge for deep drawing operations, the clearance is matching with the sheet thickness..???

Looking to hear from you the experts !

We always use metal thickness for clearance on draw dies. If its a deep draw we use several draws. Usually shallower but larger surface areas on inital draws. If we want to go all at once we hydroform it.
