Recycling Fiberglass Insulation

06/10/2010 4:03 PM

Good day,

Here at ESM in Cincinnati Ohio we have post industrial (clean) fibergalss insulation that we use for our duct work. We are disposing of about 100lbs a week and it is taking up a large portion of our waste cost. I am interested to know if there is a recycling process for this material. I have searched the web and found a few leads with Armstrong but nothing has come up. It seems the going option is to turn them into ceiling tiles. If anyone knows of other recycling methods please let me know.

The materials we dispose are owens corning yellow fiberglass, and Knauf ecobatt brown fiberglass. This is very light stuff. I tried to post an image

How thick is the insulation in your attic?

Is it loose insulation without scraps of foil, vapor barrier, paper etc? You might find that a local insulation contractor who blows loose insulation would be happy to take it off your hands. Also local homeowners might like garbage bags full of insulation to place in their attics. Your local Habitat for Humanity might be thrilled to get this material.

Just some thoughts.
