UV Rays from Electric Arc Furnace

06/13/2010 8:28 PM

Its amazing when we look at the flexibility of electric power. We can even melt tonnes of heavy metals within 10 minutes with an electric arc furnace.Anybody got an idea of the UV radiation from electric arc and IR radiation from 1700 degree liquid metal effecting the furnace man.

The furnace man will be hot if he is too near the pot.

Would you please supply information on how to melt with hots not grounded a bunch of pipes in the Gulf of Mexico?

From the arc you will be getting a broad spectrum of electromagnetic radiation. I believe that most of the spectrum is IR but nothing prevents higher frequencies, including X-Ray. It all depends of the materials in the arc itself.

there is definitely UV radiation as well. I worked for a time as a welder 30 years ago, I have deep 2nd degree burn scars to this day from a single hour I spent TIG welding where the top button on my shirt was loose and my chest skin was exposed.
