Why the Rt Films are required to be done After Post Weld Heat treatment (APWHT)?. In Thirty years I have never seen that the PWHT causes discontinuities in the welds or in the base metal. RT films Before PWHT (BPWHT) must be sufficient?
This is a subject which becomes very hot when literature and experience comes face to face. Just as you have mentioned that you haven't experienced any discontinuity caused by PWHT in thirty years, some people also have the same opinion based upon their experience. But yet there are some who have an opposite response to that, having different experience.
I personally believe that RT or UT before PWHT is sufficient when you are dealing with carbon steel or those alloys having Cr less than 5% like P1, P11 and P22 etc as the crack susceptibility is lower. But yes I have experienced some cracks during PWHT process while dealing with P5 and P9 alloys due to higher crack susceptibility.
Going by book, it is a too good practice to have RT or UT (preferably) after PWHT cycle also but practically when you are talking about large construction projects, such practice would eat up much and much of your construction progress.
