Is a Black Hole The Key To Faster Than Light Travel?

06/16/2010 2:47 PM

If a black hole can distort space and time, can it be the key for our faster than light travel? With all of the science we know and can mathematically prove, is it possible that somewhere, (in another dimension?) are all of the black holes spewing out what they are sucking from ours?

I've heard they are called 'white holes', the opposite of black holes. This would make scientific sense to me, as the universe is based upon the idea of opposites. What is crushed and transformed in a black hole may provide the necessary stuff, or materials, or energy, that is creating another universe(s), the opposite of ours. I guess we will never know unless this can be really figured out mathematically. Or, some brave soul decides to travel into one. Do you think a cell phone would have any signal on the other side?

Forget black holes, and white holes. How long does it take to make a flat rock, round?

So much for the omniscient inquisitiveness of some people.....definitely not an Einstein or Galileo.

Sadly, black holes aren't mystical places with all sorts of marvelous secret properties just waiting for people to discover and harness to their advantage. They're not useful for time travel (at least not a convenient kind), they're not going to fling you faster than light and they're not a revolving door into some other universe.

Rather they're just chock full of nasty gravity that will tear you into a thin, thin, thin string of crunchy ick if you happen to stroll too close.

I'd avoid them at all costs as a holiday destination, unless your 2nd choice happened to be certain parts of rural southern Alabama in the summertime. Then it's a toss up.

Take a look on a thread that I posted 3 years ago.

http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/11731

The initial presentation is not 100% correct and some revisions are made during the discussion with Jorrie.

As you follow into a black hole you will experience speeds higher than c. Assuming that the black hole leads you into a wormhole (wide enough to survive) you'll probably get out in another location of our universe (or in another universe). This travel will be sooner than it would be through the conventional space, as you travel faster than c.

Oups... I said "As you follow into a black hole...". I meant "As you fall into a black hole..."

This is all too much for my little brain! Even the guys with the big brains are having trouble figuring it out mathematically. Apparently all physics (our view) breaks down in the singularity.

Physics Professor Michio Kaka said it best when he stated that "Nature is smarter than us".
