Vibration Spectrum Analysis

06/17/2010 8:43 AM

I am very new in vibration analysis. I measure the vibration at main frame of a mining equipment. When I do the spectrum analysis of this vibration signal, I found that the spectrum lines present at 0.5X multiples of engine speed. For example engine speed is 1800 RPM. The spectrum line presents at 15,30,45,60, 75.........up to 400 Hz. Engine is the V12 engine.

Please help me regarding the cause of this spectrum pattern. Is this spectrum pattern is dangerous for machine health?

V12 would be 4-cycle with 2 revolutions per power stroke.

I would expect...

1800/2 = 900 [1/min]

900/60 = 15 [1/second] = 15 [Hz]

...many harmonic multiples of 15 [Hz] and probably multiples of those x12 as well.

Cannot answer if these vibrations are excessive or damaging without knowing what the normal levels should be with respect to the the current measurements and what the acceptable limits are for the associated equipment.

This vibration level is out side the limit according to the vibration standard. I observe this type of vibration pattern from the beginning of the manufacture. The engine is 4 stock IC engine.
