UAT and SAT

06/23/2010 5:01 AM

Is it necessary to provide one UAT and SAT each for Generating unit? Say example, I have 5 generating units. Do I provide SAT and UAT each??

How can we dimension UAT and SAT?

S.O.S! HELP! Before you all scold me, I googled it and found no answer.

It would help if you told us what UAT and SAT mean. Giving acronyms with no definition leads to confusion and lack of good answers. Many times acronyms are different depending on where in the world you are located.

I assumed, UAT – User Acceptance Test and SAT – Site Acceptance Test

UAT and SAT are ideally same category of tests, some people call it UAT, and other people call it SAT. These are the tests which are done to see the equipment works what they are specified for. Until this test is completed successfully, the buyer does not accept the equipment and the job is not completed. On successful completion, the buyer accepts the equipment and signs the handover certificate.

There is another important test which is done in the factory on site, generally in the presence of buyer and/or the third party appointed by the buyer. It is called FAT (Factory Acceptance Test). Until this test is passed, the equipment is not allowed to ship to the buyer.

Unit transformer, Station transformers, Auxiliary supplies, Black start transformers and Black start DG sets are there only in large power stations.

There is nothing by way of any code requirement, you can use an emergency DG set or a properly sized industrial UPS, I mean it is for the designer to selet a suitable scheme.

UAT is one per generating unit and SAT can be one per station of many units.
