I don't know of a chemical equivalent, nor do i know which ASTM spec for product is applicable. The grade in germany however is for Seamless tubes:

Chemical Composition

Grade 20CrMoV135
WNr. 1.7779
Standard DIN 17176
Country Germany

Heat Analysis

Element

Symbol

Min.

Max.

Carbon C 0.17 0.23
Chromium Cr 3.0 3.3
Manganese Mn 0.3 0.5
Molybdenum Mo 0.5 0.6
Phosphorus P 0.025
Silicon Si 0.15 0.35
Sulfur S 0.02
Vanadium V 0.45 0.55

That 3% Chrome is a real showstopper for me.

I could find its equivalent ASTM but here are its mechanical properties.

Yield Strength: 590 MPa.

Tensile Strength : 740 MPa min and 880 Mpa Max.

i got this data from a software "Key to Steel"

As Milo said, there's no exact ASTM equivalent to DIN/EN 20CrMoV135. But maybe this information on yield strength at different temperatures may assist you in establishing an allowable stress limit (once known your design temperature and selected a safety factor):

As no values appear in the standard for T>500ºC, I will not use it above that.

Note: Heat treatment condition "V" means "vergütet" that's: quenched and tempered

Kind regards

It's Okay. This forum tends to be self correcting, as Kwetz's excellent follow up post demonstrates.

Thanks for contributing.
