Carbon Credits for Small Solar Systems

06/24/2010 7:07 AM

Dear All,

Please help me to find out:

How to Calculate Carbon Credits that one can accrue, by installing, say for example a solar water heater of 100 lit/day capacity and having solar collector area of 2 m2. Inlet water temp~200 C and the range of out let temperature attained is 70-800 C. Average Solar Radiation at our location is 1200 watt/ m2

Similarly these days solar assisted air conditioning systems are being marketed. For which manufacturers are claiming that these A/c units consume only 60% electricity compared to normal a/c systems, as some new refrigerant is being used in these systems. These systems heat the refrigerant in solar collectors. Two solar collectors (total area of 2 collectors is 4 m2) is installed with each solar assisted a/c unit. Pl help how to calculate the carbon credits for these types of systems.

Regards,

Dr N P Singh

You accrued 0 (Zero) Credits. If you figure out why, you know the various information that is missing in your question.

Is that DOCTOR in front of your name?

Hopefully it's not a Phd in Engineering.

It depends on your previous method of water heating, which is now replaced by solar heating system.Assuming your current system is replaced by electric heating system for heating 100 lt/day of water from 20oC to 80oC for 365 days an year you will generate about 1/40th ton of Carbon Credits (CC)/ year.I took 0.229 CO2/unit as CC generation for replacing use of electric heating (with no losses in the system). You would have generated more had your previous method of heating been usage of coal to heat water. To understand how one calculates CC you may visit, for example http://nz.carboncalcs.com/ccalcs.htm#. This information could be found by running a single and simple Google search.I think we should send queries to CR4 forum to find answers which otherwise would be difficult to get (eg.,from Internet).
