  • mild steel: very ductile material
  • Carbon steel: higher tensile strength material
  • stainless steel: chromium and nickle give the corrosion resistance

based on there property they can be classified.

Carbon steel - The members of the Ferro alloys where the main constituent (along with carbon) is carbon.

Of course a bit of de-oxidants like Mn and Si are likely to be present.

These are classified into different grades - Low, Medium and High carbon steels (and these are defined on the normal microstructure that will be achieved after solidification).

The medium carbon steel is usually also called Mild steel.

Alloy steels have other elements too mixed with carbon (in ferrous matrix) and each of these elements give a typical property to the alloy.

One small family of these alloy steels are the SS.

Details: Read any Ferrous Metallurgy Book. Look at Fe-C diagram.

Then read alloying elements and their effect on the Fe-C complex.

Guest...

Please configure your statement as a question.....such as:

What are the differences between mild steels and carbon steel ?

This sounds a lot like a homework question....Are you a student ?

Have you bothered to use an important tool like Wikipedia.....or do you get much pleasure from getting others to answer your questions ?

Here is some sensemaking on the carbon steel grade system.

http://pmpaspeakingofprecision.com/2009/11/10/basics-of-the-north-american-steel-grade-system-carbon/

Mild steel is generally considered to be any carbon steel under 0.30 carbon . this gives it moderate strength and weldability.

Over 0.30 % carbon weldability can be an issue and the steel is considered to be higher strength.
