Germany Electrical Requrements

I am an instrument engineer so not a specialist but below you find some indications.

Machines in Europe needs a CE marking. This is a manufacturer declaration that the machine is build in accordance with the CE standards (CE = European Committee). This means you have to build in accordance with the Machine directive.

ATEX is similar with UL and CSA but for the European community.

Voltage will be 220 230 380 50 Hz single or triple phase.

Other things or color coding of the wiring etc. Earth will be Yellow green…

You better have a European specialist involved because of the Machine directive.

If needed I can put you in contact with somebody, but he will cost money.

what kind of machine? a pump?

For anything we send to Europe (we are in Detroit), we will hire an outside firm that can certify the design first then certify the machine after assembly. Its not cheap.

Practical tips: buy a Germany made: motor and wires/cables.

Mechanical requirements /safety then must be checked out by user's authorities too.

VDE for Electrical installation. Warning: Its Translation to English could have errors!

Each Germany region has it own approval agencies "TÜV", which are similar to UL and CSA. I have work before with TÜV SÜD. TÜV Rhineland has a North American presence and their web site is http://www.us.tuv.com/index.html .
