Huh?

Thats why we have scientists with high tech equipment doing that scientific research stuff that they do. Otherwise we would still be a bunch of clueless superstitious dumb ass's that ask each other stupid questions all day while making up even dumber answers to...

Oh hell I can't even go on with this reply any more I feel my IQ slipping already.

Put the weed down for a while and then go ask a first grade student why and how we know the sun is hot.

I know .. it is 2,374,458.67 degress celsius. When you get there, do measure it and tell me whether the next figure is <5 or <5. I like to be precise.

Guest, you're a sad case for certain. I know how hot it is because I used my handy dandy long range thermometer. It's even hotter than a sauna!!

Simply move your cursor over the underlined words below and left click.

You can't drill holes with it, but if you are patient, you can melt ice with it. As long as the temperature is over 33°F.

What is it now, victim number 9 or 10? Anyway, to answer our OP's question, scientists use special instruments to determine the temperature of the surface of the sun (≈ 6,000oC, ± a couple of hundred degrees).

Out of curiosity, where does this guy live anyway that he never experienced a hot sunny day in his life, Hoth?

"Oh, when the sun beats down and burns the tar up on the roof
And your shoes get so hot you wish your tired feet were fire-proof
Under the boardwalk, down by the sea, yeah
On a blanket with my baby is where I'll be"

The Drifters.

Oh when the questions come in just as stupid as they could be. I see abuse of CR4 because it's free.

Re: american cars

Let me take a wild guess here. You wanted to first ask a question on american cars but then this bright warm light came in through your window and you lost your train of thought. You've been partying all night. So you took another hit and wondered what you could ask this forum that interrupted your party. Well this bright light that is warming your face gives you an idea, you ask us if this thing that is warming your face is warm. But first you have to wake somebody to find out what that warm thing is and do they know if its warm.

So you wake up your friend, to ask her what do you call that warm thing in the sky. She tells you that your a stupid jerk, its called the sun and you know that. Its the warmest thing in the sky. You say something brilliantly eloquent like "Wow man the sun. But how do you know that its the warmest, I can't touch it."

I could continue this stupid story, but unless you're Tommy Chong trying to get new material this is just stupid. And even if you're Tommy Chong I doubt that even he wouldn't sink this low.

Now how can somebody this wasted grasp why we know the sun is hotter than a sauna? Well go to your oven and turn on the oven to 400°F (205°C). When it goes beep to tell you its ready, without touching the inside of the oven stick you hand inside. Does this seem hotter than boiling water? About the same you think to yourself, well that is if you didn't touch anything you stupid... Well that's my point. While your hand was less than a foot (100cm) from anything in the oven it didn't feel hotter than boiling water. But the instant you touched it you knew that this was hotter than boiling water. Well the oven walls are close enough you can reach it. The sun is so far away that you can't reach it in an airplane. But it still feels warm.

I would have thought that they would have explained the sun and basic scientific theory in school? Do you actually not know that a fusion reaction produces vast quantities of heat?

The following explanation is quite good.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun

And there are plenty more on the internet.

You may find the answer in this dvd titled "Our Mister Sun" one of the Bell science series films shown to kids in the 60's and 70's in grade schools. It is available at Amazon.com.
