Two Speed Motor

06/28/2010 7:16 AM

Did anyone ever heard about a two speed motor but with the ratio high speed versus low speed equals to 4 and the electrical connections equal to usual dahlander motor model. (delta / double wye or wye / double wye)

I'm not talking about a normal dahlander 8/4 poles or 4/2 poles or 12/6 poles etc.

But the high speed has to be four times the low speed.

If it exist, does this motor has an advantage over a two speed motor with separated windings.

I'm thinking about this issue because when the speed ratio is one to two, you mostly see a dahlander motor in stead of a motor with separated windings.

I know it is older technologie, nowdays we use VFD, but still curious to know it.

dear,

What rpm are you interested ? normally, what you want has only one variety... that is 750 rpm / 3000 rom. As at 50 hz, 3 phase induction motor, maximum rpm you get is 3000 rom - at 2 pole.

750 rpm at 8 poles.

This is possible, but, what about your torque requirments, accordingly, size & cost of motor shall be decided. Further, too wide variations in poles shall give different operating efficiencies ..& different power factors.

Technically it is possible to build this motor, & you may inquire upon any motor designers / manufacturers.
