78 F150 Now Has Power

06/30/2010 3:47 PM

78 F-150 now has power climbing hills, thanks to all of your help.

Hey everyone, I have found the problem. The thick gasket under the carb has a crack through the gasket from overtightening, my fault. But thanks to you guys I discovered that I had two vac hoses switched and the fuel cap was not a venting cap also creating a vac in the tank, I also found a fuel line that was rotted and possibly sucking air and I also noticed that the rear end is very worn so I will be rebuilding it soon. Thanks to all of you for your help now it is time for a few cold ones.

Cool. I believe I will have a cold one. I've found out myself on a couple of engine swaps on old trucks, just because you've got a new engine in there, it's still surrounded by old stuff. congrats!

My compliments to you. First for being such a good CR4 participant and finally for solving what must have been a maddening problem.

bob c and I have been making private fun of some of the more "creative" suggestions that were offered.

Of course, now you'll have to stick around and help the next poor devil with a problem.

Good luck.

Ok now that your problem is solved, I am going to insist that you offer your solution to the next 25 automotive problems that are posted. And because you were such a good sport about all the kidding AND you let us know what the solution was, you only have to offer your repair to three electrical engineering problems. Cheers.

I am only 36 yrs old, a gulf war vet, environmental specialist and a general contractor with a few years of post high school education so I will give it my best in the electrical dept. The fuel tank, by the way, was only removed once but I will do it again to avoid the electrical problems. What do you think about the guy that wants a pump that will simulate Niagra Falls?

It does not matter what the post asks for, you just post the cure that you used to fix your truck. Like this.

"How neutral grounding resistor will protect HT motors and transformers from ground fault?"

And your answer would be: The thick gasket under the carburetor is cracked from over tightening.

@ Draco . I was only kidding. There were so many people saying drop the tank , etc ... that I thought it was funny to say it again. :P

@ Bob ... YES! Once you have found an answer , it is important to use it as much as possible to prevent it from getting stale ! MY personal favorite is " try heating it up first " !
