Magnetrol Eclipse (FF)

07/03/2010 11:11 PM

This is regarding the Magnetrol product Eclipse Enchanced Model 705 With Fieldbus Foundation Digital Output. Currently I am receiving an error in the resource block which suggests 'Simulation is Active' but after reading the manual I have found that it doesnt really mean that the simulation is 'Active' but simply a Simulation (Hardware) Enabling Jumper. Could you let me know the location of this jumper so that I may convienently remove the transmitter from this Block Error, as per requirement of Client. Kindly reply asap!

It's right there under the thingy. Can't you see it. Just pull that loopy thing from there and put it onto the other thingy.

You know you could contact the manufacturer's product support. You know how to find the Eclipse Enhanced Model 705 support?

The Simulation Active bit of the Block Error parameter in the Resource block of FF devices will always be active when the Simulate hardware jumper is in place, according to the FF Function Block specification, FF-890 (read below for specification text).

4.4.3.21 Simulate Parameter Formal Model
The simulate parameter will be provided in all input and output function blocks. When the parameter enable/disable attribute is set to enable active (the hardware jumper must be in place for a write of this value to be permitted), the primary input or output readback value and status normally accessed from or provided to a transducer block may be manually supplied through the status and value attributes. While simulate is enabled active, the actual transducer supplied value and status will be reflected in the transducer attributes of the simulate parameter and in the case of an output transducer, the actual output will be held to the last value presented to it prior to activation of simulation. When simulation is disabled, the simulate value and status track the transducer value and status.

A hardware jumper will be provided on fieldbus device to disable the simulate parameter. If this jumper is removed, then simulate parameters of all input and output blocks within a resource will be disabled. This jumper will be provided to prevent simulation from accidentally being enabled during plant operations. Adding this jumper to a device will force the Simulate Active attribute of the Block error parameter in the Resource Block to be set active (1). This Block error attribute will remain active until the jumper is removed. Normal Resource Block alarming for the Block error parameter will be used to alert the operator when a jumper is added or removed. Also, the simulate attribute of the block error parameter will reflect whether simulation is enabled active or disabled in an input or output class block. The block error parameter is included in VIEW_1 - allowing the simulate enable active attribute to be included in operational displays.

Our 705FF device appears to operating as required in this respect. This is a common question. Please do not worry about this Block Error and you do not necessarily have to remove this jumper.

As stated above, we ship units with the jumper in place to prevent simulation from accidentally being enabled during operation.

The Simulation Active warning just tells the customer that the jumper is in place. Nothing is wrong with the instrument.

Please email me at rbotwinski@magnetrol.com so that I can forward you the procedure to remove the jumper, if you still want to.

I'm not sure if I'm trapped in a Monty Python sketch or a Firesign Theater sketch.
