Diameter of Pipe

My Friends,

As per asme sec ix, Can 1 G position pipe WPS qualify to make 6 G WQT or not? And Where is the limitation for DIA for WPS. This is only for performance qualification only in QW 452. Thanks to answers friends

Dear Friend,

  • Yes, Using the 1G qualified WPS you can qualify your welder in any position, provided the welder shall meet the welding parameters of that WPS.
  • Dia is not an essential variable for the WPS, where it requires QW 452 is applicable for dia range (refer QW 403.16)

As per QW-203, the procedure shall remain the same if qualified in 1G, you may get your welder qualify against any position using the qualified procedure. And change is diameter is a non-essential variable for WPS.
