WPS

Dear Friends,

I want to know one thing. We are fabricating Storage tank as per Api650. I am preparing a new WPS as per asme sec ix. But production need only open corner fillet weld. My question is 1) should I make Butt weld? To know tensile and bend. 2) Can I do fillet and do macro is enough or not? Material is S275 JR . Is there need notch test or not? Please to answer..

If you are qualifying a weld procedure as per ASME Sec. IX then the weding specification of a pressure-retaining fillet joint has to be qualified by making groove weld (butt) test coupons. Go through QW-202.2 for complete understanding.

And in your case, the plate has to be used for a storage tank. I think it would be a pressure retaining plate and macro is not enough.
