Without seeing the code and without the details of your operating system it is almost impossible to say what is wrong. I suggest you contact the editor of the magazine or, better still, the author of the article.

Further to the other poster:-

Are you using legally obtained software, properly installed?

The reason I ask is that software developers are getting clever, they know if you have installed fully legally or not and tune the software to work fully for legal installs and to give funny, unpredictable, un-fixable errors for the others.

It simply puts people off using the software - correctly so!!

Sometimes the errors happen even when software is legally obtained, due to some small failure in the install procedure, or even just badly written software that cannot always tell the difference......

Be warned.

Stay healthy!!

Andy, I think that VB5.0 is now available for free and has been offered by many magazines in their promotion CDs. I don't think this is a case of illegal software installation.

On the other hand, there could be some errors in the provided soft code he is using...? He needs to be able to trouble shoot the provided code from the magazine he is reading and the best way is to contact the editor etc.

For the OP: Please copy the error message word for word instead of re-writing it with in bad English ....could become inaccurate or unreadable!

firstly,

try the same program with C or C++. It gives you better handling over VB for the ports

VB is kinky.

Try force assigning the ports in the program too.
