Oil Condition Sensor Needed

07/06/2010 2:40 AM

I'm looking for a sensor to measure oil condition.
I need ideas for a sensor with mulitvariable output, i.e. viscosity, conductance, water contamination, temperature, pressure, etc.

Area: Industrial Application
Temp: -20 to +60 'C
Pressure: < 30bar
Oiltype: Meropa 320 (as an example)

Quantities?

Already available for temperature+pressure with or without integrated electronics as a cartridge (d=18mmx6mm), high impedance for low current. can give coordinates of supplier.

It is possible to make one for all parameters you mention. Do you have a limitation in power supply?

Hi there, thanks for input..

Power supply limited to +24VDC@200mA
Quantities +500/year

I would appreciate coordinates of suppliers.

I'm focusing on the multivariable part with parameters as viscosity, conductance and water contamination, along with temperature and pressure.

Temperature and pressure alone is not enough.

What is your price target?

With conditioners or without?

Which type of signal do you want to have available from the multi-sensor?

I shall discuss with the potential supplier and keep you informed. Further post via the personal channel would be better since in case it has a positive evolution it is better to keep it confidential.

Relevant questions..

What is your price target?
--> At the moment the price is not relevant.

With conditioners or without?
--> Without a signal conditioner

Which type of signal?
--> I would prefer a serial communiation i.e. RS485 or even CAN.

The IntelliStick which I described in another response, has a version which can talk RS232, RS485 and 4-20mA and a version that communicates via Bluetooth or USB.

why do you need 500 numbers per year? Do you want to sell these and you think there are people who can purchase that many?

are you looking for a solution to a problem as working engineer or want someone to sell these to you?

Be very specific to get the right answer.

Hello Shyam

Thanks for your input..

Yes, you might be right.
Maybe my issue wasn't very specific, but the reason for posting was to know if anyone knew about a multiparametric sensor for measuring oil-condition.

In general, it very often comes to price and quantities before the real problem/answer.

I might need the sensor, to be part of a product being developed at my scene. So yes, I'm a working engineer trying to solve a problem :-)

If you are designing then ask for problem related to any one sensor you are working now.

If you want to purchase or want it custom fabricated then identify contact and negotiate it out.

In this forum most of the people do help if you have limited problems. They will use their experience and guide you on right path. However, you may still need a lot of your own experience or have to make several trial runs.

Try asking one question and see how fast people respond.

Hello Nick Name.

For test the water in oil content you can visit vaisala.com the have two sensor model one is for use in line and the other is hand held type, this instruments are a great tool for keep you oil free of dangerous humidity levels that destroy the quality of oil. there are more brands in the web just clik moisture in oil sensor to find it.

Good luck

Because I believe it is relevant as a comment on this thread - the IntelliStick (www.intellistick.com) measures oil condition based on conductance (not dielectric), detects intrusion of coolant, water or fuel, temperature and can be configured to alert on low oil level conditions. Viscosity is usually a problem that should not occur if you are watching the oil condition 24/7 as the IntelliStick does. You will have changed the oil long before viscosity builds up. The Intellistick can detect viscosity as it affects conductance but it doe snot measure it directly at this time. The IntelliStick does not measure oil pressure at this time. Cost depends on the functions included and the type of probe. The list price for one Condition Tracker (Condition, Intrusion & Temperature) is $599 US. If you are looking at volume, we can talk.

Can you have more than one sensor that feeds info to a monitoring device maybe even into a PC that stores and trends the data via a software system such as intellution or some other software.
