Basis for Cold Load and Hot load spring design

07/08/2010 9:46 PM

Hi to all,

I am interested to have deep understanding about the basis of designing a spring base on Cold load and hot load spring design. Does any body in this forum who can give any idea?

In addition, correct me if I'm wrong with my present understanding: Cold load design spring is designing a spring base on COLD LOAD? and Hot load design spring is designing a spring base on HOT LOAD?

Please help me!

Regards,

Nald

Can you explain what you mean by "cold" and "hot" loads? i have heard of cold-coiled and hot-coiled springs, but haven't heard of loads. Also, i have used stainless steel and chrome-vanadium steels for springs which need to work at higher temperatures, but have not come across your specific kind of query. Maybe you need someone who has expertise in engine-valve-springs?

The original poster neglected to tell us that he is asking about variable spring hangers supporting a piping system.

That crucial little bit of information would have wasted his valuable time.

Like most other engineering posts originating deep in the third-world, you must first ask a long series of questions to understand what is truly being discussed....

In response to his question, he should:

1) Repost in the "Mechanical Engineering" forum. This is a piping support design issue. You will get much better answers.

2) Review the website www.eng-tips.com and the answers contained within regarding this issue

3) Purchase a few books on piping support design and review the methodology used for variable spring hangers.
