Danish scientists at the Risoe national laboratory have created a new type of plastic solar cell that is much more resilient than existing plastic types. While plastic solar cells are much cheaper than silicon cells, their lifespan is usually measured in days. Says Frederik Krebs, senior scientist on the project "Our new cell has a life span of 2 1/2 years, which must be a world record for plastic cells." That said, they still cannot produce as much energy as silicon cells, but that may come soon. Frederik Krebs again, "We have focused on durability and succeeded, now we will make it more efficient.
