High Reactive Power Import While Connected to Grid Resulting in Decreasing V?

07/12/2010 9:15 AM

Hello peers,

We have our own captive power generation producing more power than our total plant requirement,We remain connected to grid, thus exporting surplus power to grid.My question is whether more reactive power import from grid can result in decreasing our system voltage considerably i.e 200-300 Volts although i am asking how it actually does since i have seen it happened without any other known reason of system voltage getting decreased considerably at the same time, please clarify.

Thanks & Regards,

Sohan

Are you exporting or importing reactive power ?

Normally when we are exporting active power ,we also export reactive power but sometimes reactive power import begins then we increase excitation of our generators and make reactive power export. My question is however when reactive power is getting imported can it reduce our system voltage?

NO

When you import reactive power from Grid, this means the grid voltage is higher than your plant (IF NOT SYNCHRONISED) the voltage on your plant has tendacy to increase in this case

i didn't understand your answer,If we are importing reactive power from grid that means we are connected to grid always, please clarify.

what I mean, if you are connected to the grid and importing KVAR, if you disconnect from grid, your voltage will be lower than the grid voltage,

so importing KVAR will increase your voltage not decrease it,

Excuse me I cannot clarify more, language barrier.
