Noisy Pump

07/12/2010 8:37 PM

I accidentally ran my pump on the "closed" setting for the filter for a few minutes before I realized it and now when I run it on "filter" (as I should, duh), it sounds like there is somethin small rattling around in the body of the pump. It s a brand new 1 HP Pentair Optiflo. I am paranoid about it already because we have had many pool problems this summer and spent a lot of cash. Please tell me I did not break it by running it on "closed"! Is there a way I can clean it out. Maybe there are just some bigs or sediment in it? We live by a lot of woods so our pool gets a lot of leaves, bugs and small seeds in it.

Ask the manufacturer about your probem-it is best place to get information.

Take it apart and fix it.

Been there. The last time the pump had to come out of the river for servicing, there was a small mollusc living in it.....

10 minutes with some hand tools was all that was needed to remove it.

The optiflow is particularly easy to open. Undo 4 screws and the volute comes off so that you can inspect the impeller and volute for any foreign body.

The only thing that can fall off the pump in that area is the impeller nu and then only if it is turning in the wrong direction. A few minutes dead headed should not have done too much damage unless the pump got very hot.

Their web site will have the manuals if you don't.
