Don't even try!!!!!

Consult the manufacturer and get them to do it for you.

We had a B&S machine where the clearance was "adjusted" and it lasted less than 6 hours before significant scores on the guides, followed by capability failure. The cost to rebuild and recalibrate led us to dismantle the machine and use it for a markout table and buy a new one. The few thou $ that it would have cost to get the bearings done properly would have been well worth the cost.

I do this work for a living. I see many well meaning and smart customers that have tried to do this and then called for help.

Most of the time there is no reason to adjust the bearing, but they may need a good cleaning or it is just wornout. Suspect you have a bridge machine and the bearing is on the plate where the y axis rides. As far as the adjustment, we have never used a set air gap, it has to much to do with the air pressure. If it is not dirt, if it is not the air pressure, then your bearing is shot. Of course I agree with the other post. Call a CMM Company that does this stuff all the time, we are all over the internet. Look of someone who has AQL and is bonded.

Good luck
