Color-Changing polymers

There are many color changing polymers, that react to a variety of "stimulants": electrical, mechanical, temperature, etc.

Simply put, the polymers alter their molecular structure in response to the appropriate stimuli, changes in mechanical stress, tempertaure, etc, and in doing so the relative absorption and reflectance of various wavelengths of light is affected. In other words the color changes.
