Yes. Weight in tons = 20 X density, where the density is in tons per cubic meter.

The density will depend, among other things, on the soil type, moisture and organic matter content and compaction.

An very rough average figure is about 2.5 tons per cubic meter.

Cor, you should pick the stones out first!

A GA, but is your English soil that heavy? Ours runs a little less unless we have lots of clay. Of course, here in Western PA, if it weren't for clay, we'd be farming rocks. Whenever I watch Midsomer Murders, they've always got some little twig of a woman out in the garden digging a twelve foot hole with a short-handled shovel so that she can bury the 28% of the village she's just killed with a pair of pruning shears). Is your soil that deep?

Well, maybe that was a bit on the heavy side. Bin a long time since I weighed any, but I'm damn' sure it gets heavier every year .

The soil in the valleys of the south of Britland can be very deep - but up on the hills it may only be a couple of inches.

Thanks for the above answer.

The soil used is Class 1C material.
