Sooo passive-agressive. Have you taken your medication today?

Do you usually address a poster as "Dear"? Additionally, I know that you know that India is spelled India and not "indea", so you exposed the OPs obvious misspelling to the more literate members of this forum, all the while appearing "nice".

That's how I saw it, but I could be wrong. After all, you are usually quite acerbic and straight-forward when faced with posts-having-little-or-no-details-necessary-for-giving-a-decent-reply, or posts-that-indicate-that-the-poster-has-done-no-research-and-wants-someone-to-do-his-work-for-him.

It just seemed that you were holding back. The medication thing was a tongue-in-cheek thing. No offense.

The use of "Dears" at the start of a letter is, strangely, very common in (East) Asia. It feels awkward to us as Westerners but if looked at as a logical step from the formal "Dear Sir(s)" to an informal Dears - then why not?

My medication (Sotland's finest) must have kicked in - this has nothing to do with anything at all atall..............................zzzzzzzzzz

"Dears" is not the norm in India at least among the literate.

"Dear" is, though almost always in private communication with the "significant other". It also precedes the appropriate something "sir, madam, friend" etc.

Most of us are literate, think in English, and know the right spelling of our country's name.

Just setting the record straight

This use of "dears" and "dear" in many posts on CR4 is rather surprising to me too.

Firstly, please do not take offence, none was meant.

Nowhere did I say it was the norm, I said it was common in Asia, and it is - India was not mentioned.

None taken, rest assured.

Of course you didn't say it was the norm. It was just a knee-jerk from me, i should be the one to say sorry. Not being able to spell India .... sigh.

Like my old friend Vicktor used to say," If the truth hurts, maybe it should".

Guilty as charged. I never address anyone as Dear.

But, really now, who am I to correct someone's spelling?

Cheers.
