02/27/2007 9:15 AM

Hello there. Does anybody know what is exactly the Einstein`s equations about the black holes? And where could I see it so I can understand the writing? Thanks.

We have a "resident relativist engineer" on this forum. Take a look at Jorrie's Blog. He writes more or less for an engineering audience and his stuff is generally easier to follow than those of the scientists.

Hi Costyman, you asked about Einstein's equations for near a black hole.

If you are more specific, maybe we can all help a bit. Einstein's equations normally means his field equations and they do not tell you what's going on near a black hole! When Einstein derived them, he did not know about black holes.

As a matter of fact, Einstein opposed the idea when others pointed out that certain solutions to his field equations predict things that we call black holes today.

You may be interested in the Schwarzschild solution - give it a read on Wikipedia.

Regards, Jorrie

Well, actually, these are the 3 equations I am talking about. I`ve read it all about "Scharz"...but I`m interesed in understanding the writting..maybe you can help me:

http://archive.ncsa.uiuc.edu/Cyberia/NumRel/mathmine1.html

http://archive.ncsa.uiuc.edu/Cyberia/NumRel/mathmine2.html

http://archive.ncsa.uiuc.edu/Cyberia/NumRel/mathmine3.html

Now...these equations are still trying to be solved. Why? Because Einstein couldn't finish them, because he didn't have time. These equations can't be finished nor by human mind, either by supercomputers. But, this raises another question: Were these equations correct? I don`t know, yet. Maybe when I will graduate University I will have more knowlege about Einstein and relativity. But untill then, all I can do is to satisfy my curiozity and learn something.

! Respect for all scientist and engineers !
