More on Fouling in Plate and Frame Heat Exchangers

Does anyone know anything about the product this link takes you to? Does it work well on biological fouling in heat exchangers? It almost seems too good to be true.

Looks like a technical fraud to me.

It cannot work. The science is a bunch of buzz words.

they want an exorbitant price for it

Im sure it's probably the same principle as electro-magnetic water softeners which just clamp around the pipe and supposedly work OK.

I love the wiggly animation on the site though, I might steal it and use it myself!

Cheers

Andrew

What works even better are those remote attachment water softeners. You send them money and they attach the water softener at their place and it apparently works by some unexplained far reaching mechanism and softens your water.

Most of these schemes are mediated by kickbacks to the unaware corporate entity that buys the device at the suggestion of the kickbackee.

I've seen a similar product being sold here in Brazil that promissed to polarize gasoline before entering carburator (at that time...) and boost your engine and make it more economic for a series of reasons really close to the mentioned ones in the web site.

No need to say that someone make some money with it, and that's all.

Want a prove? Ask them if they can send you some free units for evaluation. Of course they wont.

Actually according to their website they will send you one of their devices for a free 30-day trial.

Well, you may want to try it. I mean, stop your plant, inspect and take photos and measurements (without it, you cannot know if it works). Then, install it, run, and then stop everything again and inspect/photo/measure again. Are you able to do so? Will it be effective in 30 days? If you can handle the trial period, go on. And let us know the results.

In the security industry they call that something to the effect of "snakeoil"! I am not sure about those "oscillations", but biological fouling is usually cured with some good chemistry, as are mineral deposits. Yes, chemistry can get expensive, but you have to do the math and figure your own ROI - do you want to pay for chemicals or new heat exchangers?

It doesn't filter contaminants. It doesn't change the chemical composition. It may "vitalize" water. (so what does "vitalize" mean?) And this is from the FAQ's on the web site.

The only think I can think it MIGHT do is to prevent corrosion by polarizing the water lines. This might be hard considering that they are normally at ground potential. That might work. Or it might not. A block of zinc would be cheaper. At least I KNOW a block of zinc works.
