Assuming you mean a hair-trimmer of some sort, 20W should be more than enough for the trimmer. However, it is possible that the wattage is mentioned on its nameplate, please check. Also, most such appliance come with a selectable supply 220/110V to cater to world markets. Are you sure yours doesn't have this feature ?

Ratings on Nameplate ?

Type of Trimmer ? Professiional used in BarberShop, Personal Occaionally used at home?

Is it a battery operated or Mains ?

Battery operated only charge during idle time & driven by built in battery.

Any how in my opinion an auto transformer of proper ratings may be used in both the cases.

I am using one having 3W rating of charger from my country here in USA.

Left its original charger & bought a Mobile Phone universl-charger [80V|250VAC] at much cheaper rate than an autotransformer; changed its out-put plug to match the trimmer base's input socket.

Tip for intrested guies:

I have done a lot of job on such things and found that:

1. All the personal battery operated trimmers' & Mobile-Phone chargers are same in internal design & may be used by changing of out-put plug.

2. All Laptops [most names] have the 19~20VDC output[in current ratings differ].

So any properly rated can be modified to use at much lower cost.

Regards.

Does your hair trimmer work with a motor or is it the vibrating type? Vibrating devices made for 60 Hz will not work on 50 Hz.
