2002 Dodge Neon Rim

07/20/2010 8:29 AM

Greetings All,

The wife hit a large pot hole with our 2002 Dodge Neon and bent the rim. The rim is black painted steel, 15" X 6", type 20 hole.

The part number I keep finding on line is # STL02122U45, I do not know if this is a "genuine" Dodge part number.

I checked with Dodge and they want $150.00 for a new rim with availability in 30 days. Being that the car is 9 years old, I would rather buy used.

I have checked with my local auto salvage yards to no avail and have checked on line. The on-line sites I checked did not stock this wheel or the wheel was unavailable. I did find one web site, autoparts4dodge.com that stated that they had this rim in stock so I placed an order with them. After I made my on-line purchase, I received an e-mail order confirm stating that it could take up to 30 days to locate the rim. I have called their customer service number each week for the last 4 weeks and they have not been able to locate a rim.

It appears that this rim is not available used for whatever reason.

My question – is there any other Dodge car line rim that will fit my 2002 Dodge Neon?

Thanks in advance for your help.

ozzb,

Thanks for your effort and post. I tried JC Whitney on 7/7. I initiated an order and the form showed "no longer available".

I did an on-line chat with a customer service rep through their web site and was told "while this item does appear on our web site, it is no longer available".

Thanks again!

Give this a spin: http://www.discountedwheelwarehouse...._Reference.cfm

I didn't go into it too deeply, but who knows?

Or, JC Whitney. Didn't think of them until ozzb put them up.

Oh well, it's still a GA in my book.

Hi Lyn,

Thanks for the link.

Just checked, they have 14" X 5.5" and 14" X 6" only for the Neon.

My problem may be that ours has 15" rims so maybe this is an un common size for the Neon. That is why I asked if any other Dodge car line rim would fit, maybe from a Caravan or something.

I'll keep looking.

Lyn,

I went back to the link you sent. The site lists the bolt patterns of the various rims. It looks like there are a few other model lines that are the same.

I think my search is over - Thanks Lyn

Good. Something that simple shouldn't be that difficult.

I think that wheel design/selection is a prime candidate for: Bad Industrial Design Examples

Just like windshield wiper/light/cruise controls too.

Hope you get what you need.

Don't just assume if it's the same bolt pattern it will work. You must get a wheel with the same offset, as well.

good luck

I live in a pothole country. Two hammers and some work do the job for me. One hammer to hold and the other one to model. First remove the tire if needed. Probably your spare wheel rim is different?

Hi dvmdsc,

I had thought about that but was not sure if it would weaken the integrity of the rim.

If all else fails I will give it a shot.

Yes, the spare rim is of the smaller compact (temporary) type.

Thanks for stopping in and offering help!

The "steel" rim is nothing special and pretty soft. Most important is that you keep the inside border without damage, so that the rubber of the tire can seal. Depending on the dent and repair method you maybe won't even have to paint it. (wood between hammer and rim) Normally it is not very critical. I don't have to balance the wheel afterwards most of the time. It is not difficult. Just need some bank hammers.

KJK,

If the bent rim did not suffer too serious of damage, I would try bending/banging it back into shape. Under no circumstances apply, or allow others to apply heat to the rim. As another member pointed out, the steel used in these type of rims is nothing special, and you certainly do not want to soften/anneal the metal loosing the integrity.................good luck.

I'm all for doing the work myself, when it makes sense. Given that the bead seal is quite important, why not take the rim to a professional wheel repair shop. A buddy of mine here in Saskatchewan owns a shop and straightens steel rims for about $50. In Kansas, I would expect that repair costs would be about the same or even less depending on the amount damage. When a shop does the work, you should have a reasonable chance that the rim is true and will not fail.

BTW, in my buddy's shop, hammers are a last resort, long bars with speical ends and hydaulic presses are the order of the day.

writer,

I agree a press would work well. Makes sense as you would have more control.

Thanks for the advice and help!

If it's a 15" rim, it ain't from a neon. Any 15" wheel from a Chrysler minivan, other Chrysler front drive, as long as it has 5 bolt holes, OR any front drive GM, like a Cavalier, Sunfire, etc, has the same bolt circle, and will fit.

From my 2002 tire guide, it states that Neons were available in 02 with 14, 15, and 16 inch rims. All were 6" wide, with 5 lugs, and 100mm bolt circle.

Dodge Stratus uses the same wheel if it is a 15" tire. PT Cruiser will match. Sebrings with 15" tires will fit also, but some wheels will be 6.5" wide. Chrysler Cirrus with 15" tires match. Plymouth Acclaim, Breeze, and Sundance should also fit properly.

With this much to choose from.I would suggest junk yards. There are some GM products that also have the 5 x 100mm bolt pattern, but the center hole, and offset might not match. Good luck.

According to what I see, the no. you gave (STL02122U45) is a rim that will fit 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 Neons

You might be able to order from here. The type 20 means the 20 holes around the rim
