Earthing of Building

07/21/2010 10:00 AM

Please let me know what is the suitable way of earthing a building with many electrical equipments. my way is to lay a copper strip around the building and connect all equipments separately to that copper strip and connect that copper strip into one earth rod from one point.

my doubt is, what happen when i connect the copper strip to two or more earth rods in different points on the copper strip.

if this situation depends on some factors, let me know what are those and solutions.

best regards

lakmina

Please let me know what is the suitable way of earthing a building with many electrical equipments.

That which is specified in your local electrical standards, regulations and wiring codes applicable to your country and specific application! If this is outside what you are capable of then you need to talk with either an electrician or hire a consultant or engineer to do the work for you.

Please bear in mind that if this is for a project or job, then your employer (and possibly you too) could be liable for any illegal works, property damage, loss of life (including yours!), etc if a potentially unqualified individual tries to perform said electrical specification and/or installation. In some cases failure to properly earth equipment can result in electrocution due to improperly-earthed or bonded metalwork becoming 'live'.

This is not a project someone should be undertaking without proper electrical training and an understanding of the local electrical codes and practices (especially for a building site!). Please leave this to the professionals.

How did this building get so much equipment in it without being grounded in the first place? Your premise makes me doubt. Here is some simple comment: Use acceptable forms of bonding and your general premise is correct. Consult a local electrician. The main service panel should be the location for the grounding electrode. Use a concrete encased electrode if you are familiar with them.

Hello

Earthing is most IMP in all electrical installation,

If doesn't know how to do this ,let it to professional one,

Because wrong wiring may cause accident,it may be electric shock,

Each socket on your board has a earthing point ,in three pin socket bigger one is for earthing,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC_power_plugs_and_sockets

look at url

You have to connect all the earthing points to electrical rod.(electrical rod should 3meter below the earth surface+with charcoal and black sault mixture).connection should make by 2sq.mm copper wire .

Before opening the board plz shutoff the main switch,(MCB)and keep the fuse in your pocket.Until your works complete,

My best message is to TAKE AN HELP OF ELECTRICIAN.

If you are from India, there is an IS: 3043- Code of practice for earthing. You can refer to it. This will enlighten you on most of the aspects of earthing.

It seems you are from India, the IS 3043 is used for code of practice for earthing of building.

Normally earthing is done in each area separately to a local earth bus bar, and all the earth cables from these bus bars are then connected to the common earth grid layed throughout the building. The earthing can be done on various points depending on the resistance you require. its depends on the location of the earth pit also.

actually if the soil below is having good water with moisture than you get a very good resistance, if it is a rocky kind of a soil than you have to go deep enough to get some water layer. All can be decided by putting some sample pits to check the soil resistance and then decide the No. of earth pits required.

It is very good to connect as many earth rods ( I assume they are earth electrodes) as possible to this copper earthing strip. Thereby you are creating more and more equi-potential planes.

Depending on how the different equipment grounds are inter-connected, together with the bonding technique used, you maybe creating different and unsafe ground loops in your building. Safety and other electrical noise problems are the unwanted results that will be your problem if not done by technically competent individuals.
