MV 30KV Cable and Optical Fibre Cable

07/22/2010 11:41 AM

Hi,

I am on verge on running a three phase 30KV cable right on top of a telecom optical fibre cable( the optical fibre cable is inside a PVC pipe). Both cable are buried at 80cm. Would that cause any problem on the optical fibre cable? Thanks, Mosquito

Not unless the optical fibre cable were damaged in some way by the excavations needed to put in the 30kV cable as well. Once the fibre-optic is damaged, the chances of it doing its job of carrying light from one end to the other start deteriorating.

Look at the matters from another prospective:

Cable jointing has to be done essentially in manholes, splicing, heat shrink etc. activities on one can dammage the other which is in close proximity.

Standard practice and code requirement is to provide cable markers enroute, accordingly a seperation of one meter is normally practiced to facilitate the respective crew to locate and excavate if required without applying for work permits to the other department.

Dear Sir,

You can very well run the FO Cable Over HT/LV Power Cables. However, please nesure that eth FO cables are Armoured and also ensure they are run inside separte GI/PVC Pipe and clamped separtely.

Any fault on HT/LV Power Cable may have impact on the GI Pipe and the armour also. Hence FO Cables are calmped seprately inside the trench.

Best Wishes,

N.Suresh
