Damper on the Industrial Chimney

07/24/2010 2:53 AM

We have a damper installed on the chimney for the reheating furnace used for the rerolling mill. Can anyone tell us the importance of the damper and the usage of the same for efficient use of the furnace? The damper in this case is used for throttling the outgoing flue gases

I hope the damper is automated.

the importance of the damper...is to contain the heat in the furnace for doing work. the efficient use of it depends on other variables in the process. you need one or more ways to control heat capture and use. one main concern is a stable firing rate in order to accomplish your goal. Some fuels lend themselves to quick throttling some are less responsive.

Hi,

I am pleased to inform you about the waste heat recovery system.

Are you interested installing Heat Recovery System, for recovering the waste thermal energy in the flue gases.

Payback period is less than three years.

There are lots of incentives for installing Waste Heat Recovery Systems in India from Ministry of Non Conventional and Renewable Energy Sources.

If you are interested please contact me.

Sure, it is to control back pressure and to prevent the draft from being so excessive that it pulls excessive cool air through the furnace!

Er, why can't the answer to this question be found in the original equipment manufacturer's operating instructions/manual?

Dear PWSlack, Why indeed....who would argue with sage advise....your advise is sound. These possibilities may hold water....... Original equipment and design specs. do get altered, modified or misplaced. Quiet often the operating parameters my be included, but the purpose of components may not be spelled out by the manufacturer (eg. all vehicles have brakes, few have explanations of purpose). In industrial process's changing variables may or may not impact subsystems.

It's to control the draft. There is a natural draft effect associated with any stack or chimney. Uncontrolled it will pull the heat from the furnace faster than wanted so that the proper heat transfer will not take place. by maintaining a .02"wc negative, the flue gases will leave at an ample rate and not pull excess air through the furnace and reducing heat transfer. You have to use a draft guage to set it.

Damper is used to control the Flow rate of the Air.

They may be using to avoid more Heat losses
