It depends on the variable you're measuring, the instrument you're measuring with and where it's installed. Mounting for tank level instrumentation for DP is far different than for non-contact radar.

Standpipes are often used in plumbing and firefighting systems. Perhaps this is a misnomer..... What type of instrument and what is in the vessel that your trying to read (liquid, vapor, height, heat) ?
