Refrigerator Gas Leak

07/26/2010 12:16 AM

Hi, My refrigerator gas leak from chiller zone because of fine damage to trays by child,

Is it ok to use any additives like fevi quick on that to make it leak proof or any other method.

Please suggest.

Is your refrig working? If there is a leak, the refrigerant gas will escape and the machine will cease to function. And if it has lost the refrigerant, you will need to do more than just close the leak. ~~ Nehmo

I do not recommend to use fevi quick. Chiller compartment copper pies are embedded .Inside the copper tube refrigerant is passing. Due to small hole refrigerant is leaking and after some time it stops working. Goof solution is replace the chiller compartment. Spare parts may be available with dealer . Or Remove it and plug the hole by brazing as a temporary measure.

It can be of aluminum also. What is the make of this fridge?. I am sure spare part will be available in the market. As a temporary measure you can solder it .

Goggle your search, I've used a product called LA-CO from Johnstone supply and different twin mix expoxy for allumin[?] coils that work just fine. They won't work like anything else under any pressure so it would be best used with a slight vacume on the system..lol.

There are a number of refrigerator evaporator repair kits using epoxy available. Follow th instruction carefully. Cleaning and preparing the area is vital. Let cure for at least the time instructed in the kit and then evacuate and re-charge with refrigerant. These are good long term fixes for the evaporator. -- JHF
