Dear Sir,

As the name suggests it is supposed to start any back up service- May a

battery back up or DG set. Generally DG sets are expected to start on EB power

failure and stop once the EB power is resumed.

The general working principle ia as follows. There will be voltage sensors

to detect incoming voltage failure and start the DG set accordingly.This can be

programmed for any one phase failure or total power failure.There will be a delay

timer to avoid nuisence starting if the voltage goes down for a dip. There will an

motorised power contactor to put the DG on load. The time intervel between power

failure and power transfer may be around 60 secs for DG sets of rating above 380

400 Kva as they need warming up period.

Once the EB power is restored it is sensed .The power transfer in

instantanious ( DG to EB). The DG set will run on no-load for about 60 secs . This

will allow the set to cool down gradually and the cooling water is circulated for

better cooling.There will be a timer to prevent nuicense re-starting during the

cooling or shut-down period.

The AMF panel will have a battery charger circuit so that the battery will

have required charge and the set will start when needed. There will be provision

to start the DG set manually in case the Auto Start fails.
