Pressure Vessel Thickness

07/28/2010 1:16 AM

Generally we calculate minimum required thickness for any pressure vessel is by the equation given in ASME Sec-VIII Div-1 UG-27/28. This thickness include its all loading on vessel or still we required to have more calculation for required thickness.

It's a "code." So no doubt there are 3 or 5 or 17 other provisions hidden in it, but not mentioned in the index. This is all mandatory, but I'm not sure that even Abdel Halim Galala (let alone little old me) knows all this, much less the purported reasons why. It would be highly desirable to have a comprehensible explanation of the relevant principles, but I'm not sure any such thing exists. (I hope to be proven wrong in this bleak assessment.)

Obviously, this does not take consideration of any external loads. Please refer appendix L of ASME VIII Div1, which has illustrative examples showing how to deal with pressure loadings and external loads.

-Good luck
