reading a vernier calliper

to what mark on the main scale should i adjust the vernier scale to read 3.15 inches?

show with the help of diagram.

Although I have both mics and calipers with vernier scales, I've gotten lazy in my old age and use digital instruments now. But, in an emergency I can still do it. That is if I can see the small graduations.

The first engineering type things I learned from my grandfather was how to read calipers, micrometers, and a slide rule. Have never used a slide rule since, but use micrometers and calipers all the time.

I have a solar powered slide rule. Never have to replace the batteries.

Surprising that this young person is still using those calipers...i thought they became digital long ago...to make life simpler for the young people.

i have actually seen software engineers type "ON" on their keyboards to turn on computers
