I think the Engineering department is working on wind turbine projects. I found this website and think it is the one.

What I know for certain is I saw them making blades out of 2X8's a few weeks ago.

I haven't had much time to look into it. I am just finishing my first summer here at WTAMU. If I get to stay for the fall I will probably be working on it too, or at least know more about it. I should find out next week if I get the R.A. job that will let me attend classes here, if not I will take another semester elsewhere.

the most important parameter is RADIUS.

Radius begets torque. Torque begets power to turn generators.

As to efficiency, the starting speed of the turbine is important, so you can capture as much of the motion of the air as possible in its range of possible speeds.

It would pay to search cr4 and read what has been posted before.. there is a wealth of info and links already here.

I have been impressed with laminating stamped sheets of material together. I am wondering if someone has designed blades in multiple layers that could be cut out with a saw, and then glued together. They would be of different sizes that lead to the desired form. I believe that airplane rotors were originally made this way. I know there is a problem with getting the balance right, but would think that shaping and sanding could solve that. I don't remember the technique for balancing though.

Casting aluminum might be a lot easier. I have not heard of aluminum turbine blades, maybe there is a reason.
