Tooling is the process of providing a factory or an industry with the equipment needed for manufacturing.

Tooling is the necessary design of a tool used on CNC machines. For example a CNC programmer writes a programme to manufacture an item in a automated lathe, the tool room on the shop floor makes the required tools that are then loaded into the lathe, which then runs the CNC programme to manufacture the required item.
