Alternative

08/02/2010 12:40 AM

I am coating gold on brass material by electrolysis process. now onward i m gonna use PVD (physical vapour deposition) coating which is done before studding the diamonds. I am using sealing wax to fix the product while studding diamond. Now to remove sealing wax, i am using caustic soda or washing soda while boiling which may affect the quality of my product according to the professionals. So i am looking for the alternative for sealing wax or any other material which may help to remove the sealing wax.

please give me suggestions.

What diamonds are you using? In cheap editions it would be easier to glue the diamonds in place with a clear glue (as used in solar panels). Quality setting is still with hooks. The glue is crystal clear and remains that way. (it is also used to laminate glass). Of course it depends also how the diamonds are finished below.

The jewelry industry has a room temperature water soluble wax that sound like it would work great for you. Generally its used for casting setups. Here are two of many sources

i am not talking about casting wax. i am talking about that wax which is used to fix the mountings for making the product stationary to stud diamonds. it is kindly informed that we are using cubic zirconia as well as real diamonds also sometimes.

I did not make myself clear. I should have explained better. in addition to being used for creating hollows in castings. It is used to stick things in place temporarily. It dissolves at room temperature in water. I no longer make jewelry but I used to use it quite a bit 15 years ago. I used it to hold stones while designing in wax to make wax castings. A little water and the stone was freed and then I could take the new design, merge it with a sprue and vacuum cast it. It can hold a really fine surface finish.

but we are not using that technique. we still use conventional method. and after casting and filing, we used to do studding. in that manner i need to know what is the alternative for sealing wax?
