Equipment

I don't really have that kind of equipment in my garage (my father might, but I'm not much good with anything larger than a soldering iron). I was expecting a little more along the lines of making sure that they were properly inflated.

Ok note to self, make sure you follow the right link. There are 6 steps on the second page that details proper retread tire maintainace.
My bad, I do indeed have a tire gauge (because its smaller than a soldering iron).

I used to see a simple process when I worked for a transport company. Instead of going to the extent shown in the article, the initial tread wear was countered by re-cutting the tread grooves with a heated, shaped blade. I suppose that once this once done a few times the tyre would then need to undergo a complete retread. But it was pretty effective at extending the tyres life. Anyone else come across this?

My dad owns some construction equipment and they do that for his tires. Of course those dump truck tires cost a lot more than a normal car tire.
