Why would you want to, and what type of oil? Used vegetable oil, perhaps, but there is no need after basic filtering when using a Diesel engine car. NOT used motor oil!

Can you please supply more information?

Enter 'biodiesel' into a search engine. There's tons of stuff on this topic on the web.

I haven't heard of that, but the auto repair shop up the street has a unit that can use used motor oil to provide heat for the shop in the winter, they do a lot of oil changes, so the fuel is available. Sorry I don't have any further details on the unit itself.

kramarat,

I worked at a petroleum storage facility with a large truck fleet. We had a huge garage and we heated the space with the type of heaters you are referring to.

We called them "Chunder Heaters". Don't know how the name came to be but here is a link on one type of used oil heater; http://www.cleanburn.com/about/history.html

What I do recall is that even after pre screening and then filtering the used oil, filter changes on the units were required about every 20 hours of burn time.

That's it. It worked alright. I don't think running a car on used motor oil would be feasible and probably not even legal in many places.

i need to clerify -- NOT to burn used motor oil in a piston car or truck but to change the oil from oil to gas as a refiner does - all I know at this time is oil is heated and the Gas is taken off the top of the colum - Question is how could it be done at home in a safe maner - So how do i change used motor oil to gasoline? Thanks for your responce -

I know there's someone on here that could give you a detailed explanation as to why this wouldn't work. But, from someone with little knowledge of petroleum chemistry, I would say that this would be as likely as turning butter or cheese into milk. And no, I'm not suggesting that oil is created by churning gasoline. I'm just using the analogy to illustrate the feasibility of this. Many different products come from crude oil, once they are refined out, they each have different chemical properties and characteristics, one cannot be changed into another.
