SA376 vs SA312

08/05/2010 7:22 PM

When and where can one replace SA376-TP304 with SA312-TP304? Is there an upper temperature limit for the use of SA376 or SA312?

Your input would be greatly appreciated!

Dear Guest:

Your post is very confusing to me.

It can be a electronics topic - semiconductors..

Or steel?

Both SA376 and SA312 are ASTM specifications for stainless steel pipes.

Suggest that you GOOGLE "SA312" and "SA376" look at your first hit from www.indpipe.com.

Do you understand the concept of search engines and how GOOGLE works ?? Do you understandd how to use it ?

SA 312 TP 304 with 18-20 Cr and 8-12 Ni is meant for medium Temperature service up to 8000C. It has a minimum tensile strength of 515 MPa. It is a seamless and a welded pipe and easily weldable.

SA 376 TP 304 with more or less similar composition is used for high temperature service beyond 8000C and has good creep resistance up to 8500-9000 C. But it's minimum tensile strength is 485 MPa and available as a seamless pipe up to 20 mm thick. It is also weldable.

Thank you for the information. From where did you get the application temperature limits? And also, for SA 312, what does seamless and welded mean? Does it mean either seamless or welded, OR does it mean a pipe that is welded, but the seam has been smoothed out to appear seamless?

Your advice is much appreciated!

The application temp. details were obtained through hand books.

The 312 pipes are available both as a seamless pipe and also as an ERW pipe- i.e. fully welded through a long seam.
