Welder Qualification

08/09/2010 8:41 AM

If the welder is having a running card, signed by his company qc .

Does this welder automatically qualify for production weld? Mainly I want to know the authenticity of this running card and if there is no sign from the relevant client project inspector.

Hello farwaz,

I'm not familair with running cards, does it shows the welder validation range?

If so it should mention at least qualification information such as according to which procedure the welder is qualified, the welding process used for qualification, diameter and/or thicknesses qualified and materials qualified.

If this information isn't available on this so called "running card" how can anyone guarantee that this welder is approved for the work he is doing? When there is a project inspector available which has controlled al parameters mentioned above and signed such card than you perhaps can use any ID card without validation ranges mentioned on the card.

The welder's card must contain all the major qualifications field like the welding process, material, size and consumable for which he is qualified.

On the basis of this card and his repute (if known), yes you may allow him to qualify on the production weld instead of making a weld in the shops.

We have done so during our construction project and it saved our time to a larger extent.

as long as the welder card state all the essential variables, the signature from client is not the essential variable.
