Yes! Copper@ If aluminium, it should be 3R x 3.5 core x 400 sq.mm cable.

If that for a generator output of 208 v, 240 v, 415 v, 480 v or 600 volts or some other voltage?

OP is from India. In India, 500kVA DG sets come with 415V Output Voltage. So, the cable size given is for an output voltage of 415V, 50 Hz.

You should give the current rating shown.in the nameplate.Afterwards decide on type of cable(insulation,single or 4core,method of laying,amb temp,length etc) and by referring BS 7671 you can select.
