Error - "The requested look-up key was not found in any active context"

08/13/2010 7:03 AM

I'm totally Clueless about computers. So I had the guy at work update,clean-up my computer. I usually have Yahoo as my home page. But now its set up so MSN pops up when I click onto the Internet. When I click to Google to get to ANYWHERE else other than the MSN main page. A window pops up saying "The requested look-up key was not found in any active context" WatDa????

In the main address bar type in " WWW.yahoo.com " (or just click on this link). Next press enter or click the refresh icon next to the address bar. Once yahoo opens you can right click and add it to your favorites or set yahoo as your home page. You can do this by finding the big "yahoo" on the upper left side of the screen. Just under that banner you will see "make Y! my home page". Click on that and you should be fine.

Good luck!

Ok, I'll try it. I'm on a different computer rt now. It wont let me really go anywhere except the main MSN page. I can click in the upper 2, smaller "address boxes?" but the larger search box, my cursor won't go there. Very aggravating

Or simply go to internet options and enter the URL of the home page you want to land on every time you open your browser.

How many times and ways does Microsoft have to remind you, that homepages other than MSN.com are just a waste of time? You just won't listen!!!

Problem IS... I can't even navigate/search to get anywhere else than the homepage. "The requested lookup key was not found in any active context" always pops up?

I'm no computer expert either, but I think the guy from work may have accidentally deleted something he shouldn't have. You might be able to do a restore and bring your settings back to a time before the clean up. Go into control panel, you should see something like, restore computer to earlier date/time. Click on that. Choose a restore point from before the cleanup. This may work.
