Drawing High Current

08/16/2010 10:06 AM

Every time we changeover the power from one generator to another the problem is always the sync out generator draw current from the sync in generator. I dont know what to do to make the transferring smooth and no gaining of power from the incoming generator. Until now we are shutting off the out going generator to avoid the power gain from incoming.

Sounds like you are out of sync., is the synchronization automatic or manual, if you don't have any lights or sync. scope there is a way to do it with two analog meters but I am reluctant to advise that.

dear,

In this case, it seems you have not installed the load sharing instruments.

You need to install the automatic KW sharing instrument, that gradually decreases the KW load of out going DG , & after some minimum set value of say, 15% of full load, that de couples the breaker of out going DG.

Quite natural. If the synchronisation/de-synchronisation is manual, due to the "not-so-fast" response of the operator, the synch. out generator's voltage & frequency will decrement only slowly. Then it will become "sort-of" a load (both active load & recative load) on the synch. in generator.

It is strongly suggested that you go for auto-synch. as well as auto load sharing scheme to avoid this problem.
