Additional Outdoor Breaker When Switchgear and Transformer are Far Apart

08/17/2010 1:14 AM

The distance between 11kV switchgear (in switchgear room) and 11/138.6kV grid transformer is around 200meter. which is connected through the single core cable Question is do I need to provide additional outdoor 11kV breaker between them since the distance is long. what is the safe distance up to which I can safely connect the switchgear and transformer through cables with out any additional switchgear in between. Does it worth to buy a additional switchgear in between...................or is there any other method for it. It will be appreciable if anyone can help in this regard.

Why waste money on additional 11kV Switchgear? The purpose is to shut down the 11kV CB in case of emergency. I would simply suggest you to go for an emergency stop push button (lockable) near the yard breaker, for the 11kV breaker.

The same question was asked by you in the earlier thread with so many suggestions, it's better you follow local standards for such an application because for final approval the local Electricity board officials might reject your plan and you may waste a lot of time and money. http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/58668/Additional-Switchgear?frmtrk=CR4digest
